Whilst sitting underneath a tree, the desire to compose an ode to its beauty is born. The splendour of the landscape is the natural result of so little being written about the history of the Quintas da Madeira. The profusion of scents that fill the air around them inspires a different type of registration, more poetic.
Amidst the greenery, fragments of sea show us from whence the plants and flowers came, thus making Madeira what it is today. In some Quintas, we find collections of plants native to Japan, Australia, Mexico and New Zealand. In spite of being irresistible, their scent does not transport us to those far distant lands. We already have paradise right here.
